Yes, Tisch Academy is set up for complete beginners and you can learn at your own pace. Your best first step is our Oil Painting Fundamentals course. It covers getting your palette and materials set, canvas prep, mediums and fat over lean, value control, colour mixing and harmony, edges, brushwork, layering from block-in to finish, glazing and scumbling, and safe cleanup.

From there we have courses of varying complexity for various subjects such as landscapes, portraits, seascapes, still life, critiques and art business videos. 

The easiest way to upgrade to Academy VIP is to purchase the VIP subscription for your current account.

This can be done by following these steps:

1. Log in to tisch.academy with your current email.

2. Open this link and purchase the Academy plan: https://www.tisch.academy/academy

3. When the payment is complete, the system cancels your pervious plan automatically.

You can update your billing information in your user settings, this can be found here:  https://www.tisch.academy/settings/cards

From there, click the 3 Dots next to 'Active Subscriptions' and select 'Update payment method' or 'Cancel this subscription'

All of Tisch's painting demos are in oils, but the teaching focuses on core principles, drawing accuracy, value structure, color mixing, layering, edge control, that translate directly to acrylics or watercolor.

You’ll just adjust for the faster drying and differences in color mixing.
